My take is that Christendom doesn't want to mention God's name because they are quite embarrassed by Him. Ministers and other religious leaders have read the bible thoroughly and concluded that it'd be best to keep their god's identity secret. JW's, on the other hand, are proud of their hateful and cruel Jehovah because they have developed quite a sick mind.

Directed panspermia - a plausible theory of intelligent design?
by EdenOne ini have just read an interesting article by astrobiologist jacob haq-misra.. in this article he describes a process called "directed panspermia" as a plausible way that one form of intelligent design - one not related with religious driven agendas involving theism - could be involved in the process by which life developed on earth and possibly in other planets as well.. sounds like a speculation that's worth entertaining.
your thoughts?.

intelligent design - one NOT related with religious driven agendas involving theism.
Really? It's like saying that there's a creator, but it's not God. Quite an oxymoron.
The very assumption in which it rests is obviously at odds with the biblical account of creation.
I suppose Asian religions creation accounts don't even merit mentioning. Are you assuming that only the religions of the book (Bible) can be classified as theistic? Quite arrogant to imply that, if there's a creator, it must be the one described in the Bible.

Evolution vs Creation.
by The Rebel inlooking at the board, i see so many long threads on " evoultion vs creation " ect, ect.. therefore if " your" qualifications are only those of " an" uneducated j.w, may i ask one question?.
q) what makes you feel you are now qualified to comment with absolute ,authority on any discussion?.
i ask the above question because for most of us " ex-witnesses " logic is still words written in the pages of an awake" magazine.

A friend of mine who barely attended elementary once said that "scientists are stupid. It doesn't make sense, when you cross two dogs you still get a dog, not a cat". There you have it. This type of reasoning makes Christian fundamentalists an authority that can challenge the brightest and most educated.
Otherwise, my friend is a great guy, even a very smart one.

Juan Gabriel died.
by ILoveTTATT2 infor the world, michael jackson's death was the death of an insanely well known person.. in latin america, juan gabriel was like our michael jackson, he was that well known.. generations of people all over latin america knew his songs.
you heard his songs when you broke up with someone and went to the bar, you heard his songs in karaoke, you heard his songs every saturday when your grandma played music loudly and she only had the one cassette and it was his.... i hadn't cried for the death of an artist before, but today i did.. there are sooo many memories, both good and bad, in mine and hundreds of millions of people, in which he was a part.. mexico and all of latin america is in pain right now.. may he rest in peace..

Chente and Juanga are not in the same category. They may have the same fame, but can't be compared. One is the greatest ranchera songs interpreter with a very long career (about 50 years), the other was an extremely prolific song writer/singer in a very wide spectrum of latino music, also with a very long career (almost 50 years). You can compare Juanga to Joan Sebastian. It works well. They have parallel careers and same level of success.
Justin Timberlake?...pleeease. Not even close

He is a fine example, at least to me, that shows that the "gay gene" comes with some extra benefits. His great talent, compassion and tolerance were a great example that may have helped people in Latinamerica reduce their homophobic attitudes.
Rest in peace Juan Gabriel

The problem of sex (or why I'm not an atheist)
by EdenOne inas i write this under the shadow of the walls of saint jorge's castle in lisbon, two very bored jws are standing just five metres away from me with a literature cart .... in my journey away from jwism i accepted evolution as a fact.
i also became anti-religion, agnostic and apatheist.
and, while i lean towards the persuasion of the atheist arguments, there are a few reasons that make it difficult for me to completely discard the notion of an intelligent origin of life.

@vidquin This cannot be called circular reasoning either, just plain stupid.
...why my reasoning is not circular reasoning, because I say it's not.

Well, is it possible that by not selling to a church the Watchtower get sued for discrimination based on religious beliefs. I think that can be a good loophole they can use. Same could be said of the brother or sister who refuses to paint a church. However the brother's pockets are not as deep as those of the Watchtower. Therefore a stronger case can be made to defend the Watchtower when it sells real estate to other churches, especially in a country as litigious as the U.S.

How do we know JWs are wrong and how do we convince others JWs are wrong: logic versus persuasion
by slimboyfat inwe like to think we are logical and have good reasons for for our beliefs.
no more so than when it comes to our reasons for rejecting the truth claims of jws.
we reject their version of history, such as the date of the fall of jerusalem, because it doesn't agree with the historical evidence.

logic versus persuasion
It's like saying Honda original parts versus Honda Civic.
You may want to compare apples to apples.

Just recently I had to discard the idea of God's intelligent design altogether because for every puzzling and wonderful design such as sexual reproduction you find a myriad of other processes in nature where intelligent design does not fit (i.e. evolution). The only way to assert God's I.D. or God's intervention, you have to follow the Christian methodology:
- I pray to God for something to happen.
- It happens.
- Therefore God.
To maintain the belief in a personal God the believer is forced to ignore all the prayers that went unheard. In other words, he selects the instances that appear to support his arguments, while he ignores all the instances that don't support his argument. And you don't do that when you take an objective approach. Similarly, in order to claim I.D. you have to provide consistency, either all I.D. or no I.D at all.
The only way I can fit God is at the beginning of space/time/matter when He "subjected" all matter to inviolable and eternal laws of physics, that not even he interferes with.
